I was interviewed on my local BBC radio station in January, as as part of Beating Bowel Cancer’s ’Be Loud, Be Clear’ campaign, to talk about the signs and symptoms, and by doing this be aware and ’Be Clear’ of the disease. I talked about my own experience of dealing with a diagnosis nearly 5 years ago, how it changed my life for the better, and about what I’m doing now to help raise awareness and money for Beating Bowel Cancer. I’d love you to listen to my interview, and you’ll hear how I genuinely believe this was one of the best things that’s happened to me, as I helped save my the lives of my 2 brothers (following my own diagnosis I nagged them to get checked and they were found to have the same disease at different changes….they are both fine now), and have been able to support my father since his was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year. I feel inspired to be part of breaking down the stigma of this type of cancer, so that the statistic of bowel cancer being the second biggest cancer killer in the UK is obliterated! Don’t die of embarrassment!

Just fantastic Helen, what you write is truly inspirational.
I never thought about the possibility of setting mini-goals at the beginning of your day. I always thought about the bigger picture - long term goals, and assumed that the small steps would take care of themselves. But what you’re doing makes a lot of sense and it’s great to see how it’s bringing amazing results for you. It’s definitely and example I’d like to follow. Thanks for this. By the way, I like the cute kitten in the picture!
Well done, Helen, for choosing life. For choosing being real about your illness when you were ill, rather than denying reality, hard as it must have been to you and your loved ones.
Do carry on telling others and do not be afraid or embarrassed to say how grateful you are for your own deliverance and that of other members of your family.
